Is There Uber in Norwich? Your Options for Getting Around the City

Yes, Uber operates in Norwich. It launched in the city in March 2025, so you can open the app and request a ride here just as you would in London or Cambridge.

It isn’t the only way to get a car, though. Norwich has long had a strong local taxi trade, and many locals and visitors still book with a Norwich firm like us. Here’s how the options compare, so you can pick what suits your journey.

The short answer

Uber is available in Norwich for on-demand rides booked through its app. Alongside it, the city has licensed Hackney carriages (the taxis you can hail or find on a rank) and private hire firms that you book ahead by phone, online or message.

We’re one of those private hire firms. We’ve been driving Norwich for years, and we’re the official taxi partner at Norwich International Airport, with our own desk inside the terminal.

What runs in Norwich besides Uber

If you’re new to the city, it helps to know the three main ways to get a car.

Option How you get one Good for
App-based rides (such as Uber) Request in the app Short notice trips when cars are nearby
Hackney carriages Hail in the street or join a rank City centre trips from a rank, such as the train station
Private hire firms (like us) Book by phone, website or WhatsApp Planned trips, airport runs, groups, accessible travel, account work

All three are licensed. Hackney carriages and private hire cars working in the city are licensed by Norwich City Council, which checks drivers and vehicles.

How booking with a local taxi firm differs from an app

The biggest difference is that we’re a pre-booked service. You can’t flag one of our cars down in the street, but you can book minutes, days or months ahead.

Booking

You can book with us in three ways:

There’s no app to download and no account to set up. Our booking line is answered by our Norwich team from 3am to midnight, every day, and pre-booked cars run around the clock.

Confirmation and updates

Once you’ve booked, we’ll confirm by text and keep you updated as your car’s on its way. If you booked on WhatsApp, your confirmation and updates come through there instead.

Paying

You pay your driver in the car at the end of the journey. If you travel with us for work, we also run business accounts so journeys can be invoiced to your company.

Talking to a person

This is the part many of our regular customers value most. If your plans change, your train’s delayed or you need an extra stop, you can call and speak to someone in Norwich who knows the roads and can sort it out.

What does a taxi in Norwich cost?

We price local journeys as a fixed fare agreed when you book, so you’ll know the cost before you travel. There’s no meter running and no extra charge for evenings or bank holidays.

What you’ll pay depends on where you’re going and the vehicle you need. You’ll find our current prices, including fixed airport fares, on our taxi fares page. If your journey isn’t listed, just ask when you book and we’ll tell you the price up front.

App fares work differently. They’re set by the app at the time you request and can change with demand, so it’s worth checking both if price is your main concern.

Airport pickups at Norwich International Airport

Norwich International Airport is about four miles north of the city centre, and it’s where the difference between an app and a local firm shows most clearly.

We’re the official taxi partner at the airport, with a booking desk inside the terminal near the car hire desks. Our cars wait in marked bays in Car Park 1 (Short Stay), a few steps from the terminal door.

  • If you’ve pre-booked, give us your flight number when you book. We track the flight ourselves and move your pickup to the time you actually land, and we don’t charge waiting time on flights booked from Norwich Airport.
  • If you haven’t booked, walk up to our desk in the terminal and we’ll put you in a car.
  • If you’d like a hand, ask for meet and greet. Your driver comes into the terminal, finds you and helps with your bags.

Read more on our Norwich Airport taxis and transfers page, which also covers fixed-price transfers to Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and London City.

Travelling as a group

If there are more of you, or you’re carrying lots of luggage, a standard car won’t always do. We run 8-seater minibuses as well as executive cars, so a family, a stag party or a team heading to a conference can travel together in one vehicle.

Tell us how many people and how many bags when you book, and we’ll send the right vehicle. You can find out more on our multi-seater taxis page.

Accessible taxis

We run wheelchair accessible vehicles with ramps and a secure wheelchair space, and our drivers are trained to help. These need to be pre-booked, so let us know you need a wheelchair accessible taxi when you book. There’s a question for it on our booking form.

Our disabled access and support page explains how it works. We also offer a chaperone service for passengers who need someone with them on the journey.

Which should you choose?

It really depends on the trip.

An app can suit a quick hop across town when you’re already holding your phone and cars are nearby. A local firm tends to suit journeys you can plan: an early flight, a hospital appointment, a wedding, a group night out or a regular run to work.

Some real examples of when people book us:

  • An early flight from Norwich Airport. You book the night before, get a text confirmation, and your car’s outside at 4am with the fare already agreed.
  • Arriving at Norwich Airport late in the evening. Your flight’s delayed by an hour. We’ve been watching it, so your driver’s there when you land and you don’t pay for the wait.
  • A family of six heading to Norwich station with luggage. One 8-seater minibus instead of two cars.
  • A wheelchair user with a regular appointment. An accessible vehicle booked ahead, with a driver who knows how to help.
